What is Metadata?
/OCDQ Radio is an audio podcast about data quality and its related disciplines, produced and hosted by Jim Harris.
During this short episode, special guest John Owens and I discuss the difference between metadata and data, explaining that metadata describes the context, structure, and format, whereas data describes the values.
John Owens is a thought leader, consultant, mentor, and writer in the worlds of business and data modelling, data quality, and master data management (MDM). He primarily works with highly motivated business owners, directors, senior executives, and mangers whose enterprises might be suffering the pains and losses caused by unclear identity or strategy, ineffective processes, bad data or flawed systems and structures. He enables his clients to resolve these issues and remove both the pain and the losses. When his clients take the actions he recommends they can expect to add 5 or 6 figures to their bottom line. John Owens is also the creator of the Integrated Modelling Method (IMM), which is used by business and data analysts around the world.
